Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Chapter handles your information. Chapter is operated by Louvigny Solutions Inc. and its affiliated entities, including CAIO Institute ("Chapter," "we," "our," or "us").
It covers how we collect, use, share and protect your information when you:
- visit our websites, including the Publishing AI and Marketing AI offer and order pages (the "Sites");
- use Publishing AI, Marketing AI and the related services (the "Services").
By using our Sites or Services, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide to us
When you buy or use the Services, you may give us:
- your name and contact details;
- professional information, such as your business, expertise and author bio;
- your manuscript and book materials, including any pen name you publish under;
- photos of you and your brand assets;
- information that publishing, distribution and ISBN platforms require to list your book in your name;
- the edits, feedback and approvals you make in the platform;
- the details you enter on our order pages;
- anything else you choose to share.
To process payments, we and our payment processors (such as Stripe, Whop and Splitit) collect financial and billing data. This can include the account holder's name, payment method details, billing address and, where applicable, tax information and country of residence.
If you pay with Split-It, Splitit keeps your card on file and places a temporary authorization on it so your monthly installments can be charged. If your plan renews automatically, our payment processor keeps your payment method on file for the renewal.
If you connect a social media account for auto-posting, we receive the access that account grants us to publish the posts you approved.
Information collected automatically
We and our service providers automatically collect information about how you interact with our Sites and Services, using cookies and similar technologies (see Sections 4 and 5). This includes:
- your IP address;
- your device and browser type, and your operating system;
- the pages and content you view, and the features you use;
- referring and exit pages;
- the dates and times you visit.
2. How We Use Your Information
We may use your information for any lawful purpose, including to:
- provide your plan and deliver your Services;
- edit, design, format and prepare your book for publishing and distribution;
- build your author page, photos, press kit, pitches, posts and other marketing assets;
- send the pitches and publish the posts you approve;
- process your payments, including Split-It installments and renewals;
- send you notices about your order, your plan and your book;
- carry out our obligations and enforce our rights under any contract between you and us, including billing and collection;
- respond to your questions and provide support, including live support calls;
- operate, analyze and improve our Sites and Services;
- tell you about our services, updates and offers that may interest you;
- comply with the law and keep our Sites secure;
- any other purpose, with your consent.
Your manuscript and materials are used only to deliver your Services. We do not sell your work.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share the information we collect with:
- our subsidiaries and affiliates;
- contractors and service providers who process information for us. This includes AI providers that process your content to generate edits, covers and marketing materials on our behalf, and hosting, email, payment, outreach and support providers, and our legal and business advisors. All of them are bound by confidentiality obligations.
- publishing and distribution partners, such as Amazon and other retailers, distribution and library networks, ISBN agencies and the publisher of record, to publish and list your book;
- media outlets, podcasts, event organizers, partners and social media platforms, but only for the pitches and posts you have approved;
- a successor entity, as part of a sale, merger, acquisition or other transfer of all or part of our assets;
- authorities, in response to a subpoena, court order or other legal process, or to protect our rights, the rights of others or anyone's safety;
- others, with your consent or as disclosed when we collect the information.
Once your book, author page, press kit and posts are published, the information in them, such as your name, bio and photo, is public by design.
4. Digital Advertising & Analytics
We may partner with advertising networks and ad-serving providers that show our ads on other platforms, such as social media and search engines.
Some of these ads may be personalized based on how you have used our Sites and other sites over time. This is known as interest-based advertising. We may also use analytics providers to understand how our Sites are used.
You can learn about interest-based advertising, and opt out of it with participating companies, through:
- the Digital Advertising Alliance's WebChoices tool at aboutads.info;
- the DAA's AppChoices app for mobile;
- the Network Advertising Initiative at optout.networkadvertising.org.
You can also manage ad preferences in your device or browser settings.
5. Cookies & Tracking
We and our providers use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to:
- operate the Sites and keep you signed in;
- remember your preferences;
- understand how the Sites and Services are used;
- measure how our advertising performs.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling them may affect some features of the Sites.
6. Third-Party Links & Services
Our Sites and Services may include or link to third-party websites and services, such as:
- retailers, including Amazon KDP;
- payment processors and payment plan providers;
- video players;
- social media platforms;
- analytics tools.
These third parties have their own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for their content or policies. We encourage you to review their privacy notices.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Never share your Amazon or other account passwords with us by email. When a support agent helps you publish, they guide you on a live call while you stay signed in to your own account.
8. Data Retention
We keep personal information in identifiable form only for as long as we need it for the purposes it was provided for. We may keep it longer where that is needed to:
- comply with legal obligations;
- resolve disputes;
- enforce our agreements;
- meet similar essential purposes.
To decide how long to keep information, we consider its amount, nature and sensitivity, and the applicable legal requirements.
When the retention period ends and we are not otherwise required to keep the information, we delete or de-identify it. Copies of your book that are already published or sold remain with the platforms and buyers who have them.
9. Your Choices
To opt out of marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing message.
If you opt out of marketing, we will still send you messages about your order, your plan and your book, such as order confirmations, approvals and renewal notices.
You can disconnect a social media account from auto-posting at any time.
For interest-based advertising choices, see Section 4. For any other privacy choices, contact us at support@chapter.pub.
